Why do you require an interview?
We need to confirm the information you provided on the model interest
form. Although you may have provided photographs, we want to see you in
person. We waive this requirement when references are available from photographers
we know and trust.
An interview allows you and us to sit down, discuss the project and decide
whether we wish to work together. At the interview, you can ask any question
you wish. We will.
Bring a bikini (thong bikini preferred). We will ask to see you in a
swimsuit. If you are interviewing for figure or nude modeling assignments,
we will ask to see you nude.
You are welcome to have a friend accompany you when you come for the
interview. If you have a friend accompany you, they should not expect to
observe or participate in the interview.

What kind of pictures do you take?
The web sites contains a good representation of our past work. Our primary
focus is fine art nude photography. We do shoot some fashion styled photographs.
We may explore sensuality and eroticism in our photography, but we will
not produce pornography. We will not ask our models to perform or simulate
a sexual act nor will we ask our models to pose or present their bodies
in any manner which would demean themselves.

What do you do with the pictures?
Photographs produced during "creative test" sessions are used for self
promotion and professional development. Every so often, an opportunity to
sell such a photograph appears. It is for that reason, we ask permission
to sell the photo and share the revenue. A "creative test model's release"
is required.
Photographs produced during "paid" sessions may be used in our online
galleries, sold as prints, used in advertising, calendars, magazines or
other publications or discarded at our discretion. A full unconditional
model's release is required for paid sessions. We do not provide
images to "men's magazines" whether electronic or print.

What are "test" and "creative test" sessions?
The "test" session is used to determine the prospect's aptitude, skill
level and potential as a model for Ahrens Photography. It is part of the
interview process. There is no cost to the model.
The "creative test" session is used to explore ideas and concepts. Professional
development of the photographer and the model are the desired output of
"creative tests".

Can I use the pictures?
Photographs produced during "test" or "creative test" sessions are available
for self-promotional use only. Generally, a small number of prints are provided
to the model in exchange for a limited model release.
Photographs produced during "paid" sessions are not available for the
model's own use unless negotiated as part of the model's compensation.
Photographs produced under an "exchange" arrangement are the property
of the model or Ahrens Photography as agreed prior to the shoot.

How much will I be paid?
REALITY CHECK! Fine art and figure modeling rates are lower than commercial
or glamour modeling rates. Please expect to be offered nude modeling fees
ranging from $50/hour to $100/hour depending on your experience modeling
nude for fine art and figure photography.
It is extremely rare that we hire inexperienced or beginning models
without completing a "test" shoot with Ahrens Photography. A "test" shoot
is required of experienced models without acceptable evidence of recent
work.
It is becoming more common for us to pay a modest fee to experienced
models for "creative test" sessions. This is more cost effective since experienced
models need fewer prints from the sessions.

Can I bring a guest to the photo sessions?
Many models (beginner or professional) are concerned about their personal
safety. A trusted friend or family member being present may reduce that
anxiety. Therefore, one guest is allowed at "test", "creative test", "stock"
and "gallery" sessions with these conditions:
- you have notified us when scheduling the session that you are bringing
a guest.
- your guest is allowed in the studio only when invited by the photographer.
- your guest will help as requested (this may include modeling*).
- your guest will be asked to leave if disruptive or distracting.
- your guest's safety and expenses are their responsibility.
- your guest's behavior is your responsibility.
*guests who model will be compensated at a rate of $50/hour for camera
time and will be expected to sign a release.
We recommend that you select your guest from the following list (in descending
order of preference):
- models, photographers, industry professionals
- sisters, female friends or cousins
- brothers, male cousins or friends other than boyfriends
- family members other than husbands
- husbands, boyfriends
